APPLE STRUDEL Details: Prep Time : 30 mins Cook Time:  30 mins Ready Time :  1 hour SERVINGS: 6 servings Ingredients 8 apples, peeled and quartered 1 cup  granulated sugar ½  cup chopped walnuts ½  cup  raisins 2 tsp grated lemon rind 1 tsp cinnamon 2 sheets puff pastry 1 cup butter, melted (approx) 1/2 cup  fine dry bread crumbs Icing sugar Directions:   1. Peel and thin slice apple wedges. 2. In a pan, melt the butter, add in the apples and saute till the apples are almost cooked. Add the sugar, nuts, raisins, lemon rind and cinnamon; cook till the apples caremelize. 3. About 2 inches (5 cm) from one long edge of pastry, spoon apple mixture lengthwise down pastry in 3- inch (8 cm) wide strip, leaving 2-inch (5 cm) border of pastry at each short end. 4. Starting at long edge nearest filling, carefully begin to roll the puff pastry over filling. 5. Roll up strudel jelly roll-style, folding in edges as you roll. 6. Roll up firmly but allow a little slack for expansion. Carefully place strudel seam side down on greased baking sheet. Brush with butter. 7. Cut 7 slits in top. Bake in 400°F (200°C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until crisp and golden. Transfer to rack or serving platter. Just before serving warm or at room temperature, dust with icing sugar.
